چکیده

Gerwing et al. described the isolation and purification from culture filtrates of the toxin of Clostridium botulinum type B and characterized it as a homogeneous protein of less than 10,000 molecular weight. Analysis by various methods of samples of this toxin obtained from Gerwing et al., and preparations produced by their methods in our laboratories, furnished convincing evidence that neither her preparation nor ours was homogeneous. The molecular weight of the toxic component isolated from either of the preparations was 100,000 or greater and resembled, in a number of respects, the alpha component isolated by us from the crystalline toxin of C. botulinum type A.

Characterization of Clostridium botulinum spores and its toxin in honey

Botulism is a serious paralytic disease caused by Clostridium botulinum toxin in foods. There are seven recognized serotypes of botulinum neurotoxins among which the principal prevalent types in humans include A, B and E. Infant botulism results from intestinal colonization and toxin production by C. botulinum spores in babies less than 1 year old. Honey is the most important food discriminated...

Double Sandwich ELISA Modified Method for the Detection of Clostridium Botulinum Type E

Background & Objective: A very small amount of botulinum toxin can cause death and on the other hand, there is no cure for its poison other than antitoxin. Therefore, a diagnostic method that can detect very small amounts of botulinum toxin in a short time is very important. In this study, rapid and accurate detection of botulinum toxin type E has been performed with the double sandwich ELISA m...

Molecular Cloning of Clostridium Perfringens type B Vaccine Strain Beta Toxin Gene in E. coli

Clostridium perfringens is a gram-positive, obligate anaerobic bacterium, which is widely distributed in the environment. C. perfringens is subdivided to 5 groups (types A to E), based on its four major toxin (alpha, beta, epsilon and iota). C. perfringens type B beta toxin causes inflammation and bloody necrotic enteritis. Type B related enterotoxaemia is a major problem of veterinary sciences...

Molecular weight of type a botulinum toxin.

Clostridium botulinum type A does not produce a 12,000 molecular weight toxin. The reported isolation of such a material by Gerwing et al. could not be confirmed.

Actin-specific ADP-ribosyltransferase produced by a Clostridium difficile strain.

By screening possible ADP-ribosyltransferase activities in culture supernatants from various Clostridium species, we have found one Clostridium difficile strain (CD196) (isolated in our laboratory) that is able to produce, in addition to toxins A and B, a new ADP-ribosyltransferase that was shown to covalently modify cell actin as Clostridium botulinum C2 or Clostridium perfringens E iota toxin...
